ALL-STATE VARSITY TEAMS

Coaches... Login in this website and cast your votes for the 2010 All State High School Racquetball teams. Only Varsity coaches will have the opportunity to vote and only boys teams can vote for boys and girls teams can vote for girls.

All State teams represent who you (as coaches) think best represent the league in all aspects of the league.  Beyond the individual on court performances, consider sportmanship, leadership, and team work.  Consider these 'All Star' teams and cast votes for who you think would be the best players in the league to fill out your first team, second team, and honorable mention team.

Remember also that you can vote for anyone... each team will have 6 singles players and a doubles team.  The six singles players can be the #1 seed from 6 different schools... it's whatever you think best represents each team.  The doubles teams must be selected from the teams who were paired up for the season.

There is also a Sportsmanship Award.  While you can vote for your own players for the All State Awards, you cannot vote for someone from your own team for the Sportsmanship Award. You must select a student from another Varsity team with your vote.

How do you vote?  Login (COACHES: LOGIN TO THE WEBSITE HERE) and click on the button that says 'Click Here to Vote'.  Then 1) Click on Edit to select a player or team for a given spot. Next 2) Select a Name from the drop down menu.  Lastly 3) Click on Update to submit your entry.

All voting must be complete by 10 am on Friday, March 12th. All results will be announced on this website after 1pm on Friday, March 12th.  These players that make the All State Teams will be recognized at the League Banquet on Thursday, April 8th.

LADDER LEAGUE IS NOW JV3 LEAGUE

In an effort to promote the program as a natural precursor to JV & Varsity competition...

The Ladder League will be renamed the JV3 League.  This creates a logical sequence of participation for developing players... JV3, JV2, JV1, and then Varsity...

In the coming days, the Ladder League will be renamed the JV3 League on all website materials.

More improvements are forthcoming on the JV3 League as well.  Our goal is to work to enhance the team feel of this league.

2009/2010 COACHES MEETING

The coaches meeting will be on Wednesday, September 23 at 7pm.  The location will be the Brent Room at Visitation Academy.  At least 1 representative from each participating school is required to attend.

This meeting is for all returning coaches and all new coaches.  This year 5 teams will have new coaches and last season 5 teams had new coaches. The first 45 minutes of the meeting will consist of an overview of league expectations for the new season.  Then, for all interested new coaches from the last 2 years, we will break into huddles and create mentor groups for the season.  The mentors will share ideas and help with the new challenges that new coaches face.  All new coaches... please bring questions!  We will be able to answer them all in the huddle groups after the meeting.

2009-2010 HIGH SCHOOL RACQUETBALL SEASON INFORMATION

It's time to start thinking about the upcoming 2009-2010 High School Racquetball Season.  Several changes have been made in an effort to improve the league and increase the competition and size of the league.  Listed below are summaries of the changes...

LADDER LEAGUE FOR GIRLS

For the first time, Girls Schools are invited to participate in the Ladder League.   For more information on the Ladder League program, click here...  We strongly encourage schools to enter at least their first year players in the Ladder League program.  If your players have previously played Varsity, JV1, or JV2... they would not be good candidates for this league.  Due to challenges in court availability around the St. Louis area, it is difficult to grow our league.  The ladder league creates a great way to bring new players into the game.  It prevents teams from having too many JV1 and JV2 teams and allows kids to play more similarly skilled players.  Over the years the Ladder League has proven to be successful in helping the Boys Schools develop their Varsity rosters and we envision similar results for the participating Girls Schools this season.

Please remember you can have multiple JV teams but remember the following rules...

1.  Must have a JV1 team, if you are offering a JV2 team.

2.  If you have 3 JV teams, you may enter your 3rd team in either JV1 or JV2...

3.  If you have 4 JV teams, you must have 2 JV1 teams and 2 JV2 teams.

4.  If you wish to have more than 4 JV teams, please request permission from the board in advance of your official League Entry (this is just a formality, the league doesn't want to be caught off guard by a large entry).

VARSITY REQUIREMENT

All schools participating in the league will still be required to field a Varsity team.  Exceptions will only be made for teams composed entirely by first year players.  All requests to field a JV team and not have a Varsity team, must be made in writing to the Executive board prior to submitting a team entry in October.

MATCH TIMES 2009/2010

Due to the closure of Hampshire in 2008 & the reduction in the number of the courts at the JCC in 2009, league matches will have to be played on Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons, and perhaps even Sunday afternoons.  This will be a new concept for our league, but a necessary change.

With declining court availability in the St. Louis area and growth in the size of our league participation, we will have to alter our 'norms' to include weekend play.  It is necessary for our league to explore using new venues and different times at our regular venues.

In addition, due to there currently being 4 clubs (we hope to add more in the coming weeks) that are hosting league matches, it is critical that league matches start as close to on-time as is possible.  Teams are expected to arrive early to the matches so that they can start on time.  We understand that not every kid can arrive to every match on time, but please make every effort to get things started as quickly as possible at the match. Your entire team does not need to be present to start the matches.  Get the kids who show up first, play first.

This year we want to be the best guests we can be in every club we play in around St. Louis.  We need to have matches end on time.  The only way to assure this is to start matches on time.  For example... with the new courts at the JCC, we have to assure that our matches are completed by 5:15pm because they have leagues that start at that time.  If managed properly and efficiently, we have every confidence that all of the teams in our program will have no problem achieving this goal.

LEAGUE FORMS

Click here to download forms for the 2009/2010 season.  Entry forms, student waivers, coaching ethics forms, and team etiquette forms are all updated for the new season.  Please note the following changes...

TEAM ENTRY FORM

-- Please note the new league fees for the 2009/2010 season.  We have incorporated the cost of all league tournaments into the league fees.  All schools will play in all tournaments as part of the league schedule.  The only optional tournament going forward will be the Doubles Tournament.  That will still have a cost of $12 per player.

-- Note that MOHSRA/USAR Memberships have risen. MOHSRA's costs have risen and we had to raise the cost.  Additionally USA Racquetball rose prices by $5 a membership for juniors nationwide.

-- There is now an attached page for conflicts that needs to be submitted.  Conflict dates need to be restricted to school related activities. Please refrain from requesting conflict dates for specific individuals.  Each date requested will require a reason to be listed in order to receive the board's approval.

STUDENT/PARENT ATHLETIC WAIVER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY

-- All players participating in the 2009/2010 season will need to complete the new waiver.  Changes were made to incorporate the new clubs participating in the program.  Last year's waiver will not work for this season.

MOHSRA STANDARDS FOR COACHING ETHICS

-- All coaches/parents/chaperones, or anyone helping regularly with your team, must turn in a signed copy of this revised form.  For liability purposes this is a mandatory requirement for every school.

ETIQUETTE CHECKLIST FOR PARENTS, STUDENTS, & COACHES

-- Coaches must review this revised checklist with their teams prior to the first match of the season.  Each coach must also distribute this list to all of his/her players' parents via handout or email.  The best way to encourage the proper atmosphere at matches is to share expectations in advance of the first match.
