NEW TEAM TOURNAMENT TIEBREAKER RULE

RULE #28 in the League Rules for tiebreakers has changed.  The tiebreaker ruled used for player and team rankings for league play will stay the same.  The tiebreaker for team results in tournaments has changed.

The new rule is... "The team the has players advance the farthest in the majority of divisions."

*For example, if Kirkwood and Visitation tied in the team point totals for JV2 at State, a tie would be broken in the following way... If Kirkwood had a player go farther than Visitation in 3 out of the 5 JV2 divisions, that would break the tie in favor of Kirkwood.

**For all tournaments that have an even number of divisions, the last division would be excluded for the purposes of breaking the tie.  For example, at JV3 State, the tiebreaker would only look at divisions 1-5 to break the tie and division 6 would be excluded.

In the past, the tiebreaker only looked at head-to-head matches between the tied schools.  That tiebreaker relied more "seeding coincidence" (only players with records of .500 or better are seeded, the rest of the entrants are randomly generated) in regards to the fact that teams didn't play head-to-head in all brackets.  It also tended to emphasize, in several cases where teams met in one or two divisions, a player or doubles team "cost" their team victory by losing a match. The seeding prevented teams from matching up in all divisions and this new rule will give more consideration to the "entire" team performance determining the tiebreaker result.

THANKS TO ALL OF THE PARTICIPATING RACQUETBALL CLUBS & NEW PARTICIPATING CLUB --- MISSOURI ATHLETIC CLUB-WEST

Thanks to all of the St. Louis area Racquetball Clubs that support the Missouri High School Racquetball Association by hosting league matches.  Without clubs like Maryland Height's Bally Total Fitness, St. Louis JCC, Ballwin's West County Health & Fitness, Vetta Sports Concord, and West James in St. Charles, we wouldn't have a place to play.

We want to extend a special thanks to the Missouri Athletic Club-West in Town & Country, who will be hosting Varsity matches beginning this season.  The MAC has been a supporter of our league in the past by helping host the 2009 & 2011 USA Racquetball High School Nationals.  This new addition helps our league continue to grow.

Please remember we are a guest in all of these facilities.  Let's all do our best to be respectful of their staff and members.  We want to continue to have their support for our program.

Click here to see what's expected of everyone when at a league match...  visit the MOHSRA Etiquette Checklist...     A few specific reminders include... try to limit timeouts to 30 seconds... no coaching players during the games (except during timeouts) at the Varsity and JV1 level (e.g. using hand signals for serves)... and new this year, no slapping the walls or banging on windows after a great rally.

WELCOME TO 3 NEW PARTICIPATING HIGH SCHOOLS... LINDBERGH, FRANCIS HOWELL, AND LAFAYETTE...

Beginning this year in our JV3 program, we will have participants from these 3 schools.  The MOHSRA is excited to add these schools into our program.
