2009 USA RACQUETBALL HIGH SCHOOL NATIONALS CHAMPIONSHIPS
We have kicked-off Day 3... follow all of the action 'LIVE' online by clicking here...
ALL-STATE VARSITY TEAMS
Coaches... Login in this website and cast your votes for the 2009 All State High School Racquetball teams. Only Varsity coaches will have the opportunity to vote and only boys teams can vote for boys and girls teams can vote for girls.
All State teams represent who you (as coaches) think best represent the league in all aspects of the league. Beyond the individual on court performances, consider sportmanship, leadership, and team work. Consider these 'All Star' teams and cast votes for who you think would be the best players in the league to fill out your first team, second team, and honorable mention team.
Remember also that you can vote for anyone... each team will have 6 singles players and a doubles team. The six singles players can be the #1 seed from 6 different schools... it's whatever you think best represents each team. The doubles teams must be selected from the teams who were paired up for the season.
There is also a Sportsmanship Award. While you can vote for your own players for the All State Awards, you cannot vote for someone from your own team for the Sportsmanship Award. You must select a student from another Varsity team with your vote.
How do you vote? Login (COACHES: LOGIN TO THE WEBSITE HERE) and click on the button that says 'Click Here to Vote'. Then 1) Click on Edit to select a player or team for a given spot. Next 2) Select a Name from the drop down menu. Lastly 3) Click on Update to submit your entry.
All voting must be complete by 10 am on Friday, March 14th. All results will be announced on this website after 1pm on Friday, March 13th. These players that make the All State Teams will be recognized at the League Banquet on Tuesday, March 31.

MORE DOUBLES INFO
Thanks to Wilson Racquetball and the Wilson Elite Staff for putting on a great doubles clinic last weekend. The attendance was great and thanks to everyone for the kind words of feedback on the event. It was definitely a huge step in the right direction with the recent addition of doubles teams to the JV1 division of our league. For more information on tips to help with doubles, check out the links below...
DOUBLES SERVING RULES - PARTNER POSITION
HOW TO STAY OUT OF YOUR OPPONENTS WAY
Also, please check out this list of SEVEN SAFETY REMINDERS FOR DOUBLES... all are excellent points to go over with your team before they play and are a summary of the topics from the Wilson Racquetball Doubles Clinic...
- Always be aware of location of the other 3 players on the court.
- If you think you might hit someone… don’t swing. As long as you had a chance to hit the ball, the ref will give you a hinder.
- Watch the ball, even when it is behind you. Never assume that the other player will hit around you, they might not see you.
- When refereeing, if you see someone about to be hit… yell for the players to STOP or HOLD-UP. Then call a hinder and replay the rally.
- It is recommended that your partner should serve to the opposite side of the court you are standing on.
- The first server of the game will have two service turns before their partner has one.
- The server’s partner must remain in the doubles box with both feet on the ground and their back against the wall until the ball crosses the short line into the back court.

2008-2009 HIGH SCHOOL RACQUETBALL SEASON INFORMATION
It's time to start thinking about the upcoming 2008-2009 High School Racquetball Season. A number of changes have been made in an effort to improve the league and increase the competition and size of the league. Listed below are summaries of the changes...
NO MORE JV3
One year ago, the Girls League removed the JV3 division. The result was more participants in JV1 & JV2 and more competitors in the state brackets for those division. Beginning with the 2008/2009 season, the Boys League will also eliminate the JV3 division. We strongly encourage schools to enter at least their first year players in the Ladder League program. For more information on the Ladder League program, click here... Please remember you can have multiple JV teams but remember the following rules...
1. Must have a JV1 team, if you are offering a JV2 team.
2. If you have 3 JV teams, you may enter your 3rd team in either JV1 or JV2...
3. If you have 4 JV teams, you must have 2 JV1 teams and 2 JV2 teams.
4. If you wish to have more than 4 JV teams, please request permission from the board (this is just a formality, the league doesn't want to be caught off guard by a large entry).
JV1 DOUBLES
Beginning with the 2008/2009 season, doubles will become a part of the JV1 league. Teams will now consist of 4 singles players and 1 doubles team; a total of 6 players. The board wants to thank all of the coaches who provided feedback on this issue. Your feedback went a long way to helping make our decision. We will review the result of this change after this season and determine next summer if we will add doubles to the JV2 league in 2009/2010. This change was made for several reasons...
1. Increase the number of kids that can play on a JV1 team.
2. Increase the opportunity for kids to play doubles. Why wait until they are on the Varsity team to learn?
3. Increase the ability of the Varsity doubles players. Now kids will have the change to play JV1 doubles before they play Varsity doubles and will become better 'doubles' players.
The board realizes that there are safety concerns as it relates to doubles. For JV1 doubles matches, there will be 2 referees... 1 from each school. They will work together to officiate the matches and ensure safety and prevent accidents. Doubles matches will also be played first at all JV1 matches. Additionally a mandatory 'Doubles Clinic' will be provided for all of the doubles players in the league. The clinic will be at the end of October. Details on the Clinic date and time are not yet available, but will be provided at the Coaches meeting in September.
VARSITY REQUIREMENT
All schools participating in the league will still be required to field a Varsity team. Exceptions will only be made for teams composed entirely by first year players. All requests to field a JV team and not have a Varsity team, must be made in writing to the Executive board prior to submitting a team entry in October.
NATIONALS 2009
The league is still searching for a second club to host Nationals 2009 along with Vetta Sports Concord. We hope to have a second venue set up by the start of the season in November.
MATCH TIMES 2008/2009
Due to the closure of Hampshire, some league matches will have to be played on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. This is not different from other high school sports that play on weekends, but is new to our league.
In addition, due to there only being 4 clubs that hosting league matches, it is critical that league matches start as close to on-time as is possible. Teams are expected to arrive early to the matches so that they can start on time. Failure to leave school grounds in a timely fashion to arrive at the match is not an excuse. The schedule is posted in advance so that teams can plan accordingly. No team can delay the start of a match for team business (e.g. team photos, meetings, etc.). Coaches will need to schedule that business for practices or after the match. It is important we respect the clubs and opposing teams and make every effort to begin matches on time. Your entire team does not need to be present to start the matches. Get the kids who show up first, play first.
