WHAT IS IT and WHO IS IT FOR?
The Ladder League serves as another level of play for the Missouri High School Racquetball Program. In an effort to develop players for the future and not restrict participation in the league, the Ladder League serves as a level that precedes Junior Varsity and Varsity competition. In addition, it functions as a means for high school players without teams to participate in the Missouri High School Racquetball Program. It is also an option for students who are cut from teams at schools with roster limitations. Anyone in high school that isn’t on a Varsity or Junior Varsity Team can participate. It serves the purpose of being a 'competitive' option for schools that don't wish to field a Varsity Team but would like to introduce a 'life sport' at their school. Some schools could even have students participate to fulfill a Physical Education requirement. The best part is, the students will still be representing and competing on behalf of their school.
WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
The Ladder League will take place on Saturday mornings/afternoons. Over the first 2 sessions, scrimmages and clinics will take place to determine the initial positions of the players on the ladder. For weeks 3-9, the ladder will be divided into several groups assigned to different courts to compete in round robin play. Based on performance, players will be moved up and down the ladder rankings accordingly. Week 10 will be the State Championship Tournament for the Saturday Missouri High School Ladder League.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The kids in the league will be guaranteed a minimum of 3 games to 15 each week. This is comparable to 1 weekly match in JV competition. However, the difference here is that in the Ladder League the games will be against 3 different opponents. The opponents will be determined by a player’s position on the Ladder. This ensures even-skilled match-ups. If things run smoothly, the kids will get extra games, as well, each week.
WHAT IS REQUIRED and HOW DO I SIGN UP PLAYERS?
Each school will need to submit a roster online of students that are going to play on the Ladder League. These players are also required to fill out the Student/Parent Release Form & Emergency Contact Sheet. The cost per player to compete in the Ladder League is $120 (includes $30 MOHSRA/USAR fee) for the 10-week session. Anyone entering after the start of the season will be added to the bottom of the ladder and will still have to pay the same fee of $120. This fee will also allow the student to participate in the Winter Rollout Tournament and the Ladder League State Tournament (held the last week of the ladder). A coach/parent for each school is required to attend the games each week in case assistance is needed for the players in the Ladder League.
